Message from the President of the Congress, Rod Baber –

“The 15th IMS World Congress on the Menopause was held in Prague, capital of The Czech Republic, from September 28th to October 1st 2016. Over 1,500 delegates from around the world attended what was a very successful meeting. Delegates were spread fairly evenly between Europe, Asia and The Americas with good representation also from South Africa, Australia and New Zealand.

The theme of the congress was ‘Heart Health Matters’ and the opening plenary, reviewing differences in cardiovascular disease between men and women, was delivered by Giuseppe Rosano to great acclaim. The tone for the meeting was set at the outset with excellent speakers delivering high quality papers on a broad range of topics. Other plenaries covered diverse topics including, “Progestogens and breast cancer”, “Does PCOS cause heart disease”, “Can we prevent the Alzheimer Tsunami?”, “The evidence base for HRT – can we believe?”, “Human obesity causes and consequences”, “The role of bariatric surgery in the management of obesity”, “Future strategies for fracture prevention” and “Lifestyle approaches to prevent falls, fractures and frail bones”.

This was a happy and truly collegiate meeting with halls full of delegates for all presentations and social functions buzzing with social and professional interaction.

Our feedback has been overwhelmingly positive and, if you missed Prague, I encourage you to come to Vancouver in 2018. If you were at Prague I know you will want to repeat the experience.

My thanks to The IMS Central Office, especially Lee Tomkins and Martin Derbyshire, to The Chair and Deputy Chair of the scientific committee, Susan Davis and Tommaso Simoncini, to the Congress Organizing Committee, the IMS Board and, of course, to our outstanding Congress Organisers, Biomedical Technologies and David Genazzani.

This is my last message as IMS President. I thank all of you for your support of me and your support of IMS and I wish our new President, Mary Ann Lumsden, every success.”
