Celine is a final year PhD Candidate in the Centre for Neuroendocrinology at the University of Otago, New Zealand. She completed her BSc (Hons) in physiology while in Ireland and relocated to pursue her research interests surrounding female ageing, sex hormone signalling and reproductive neuroendocrinology. Her PhD project has focused on understanding how estrogen signalling exclusively within the brain can regulate protective effects against metabolic dysfunction during menopause. Celine’s PhD has focused on using alternative estrogenic compounds to those currently used in menopausal hormone therapy, including DHED, the brain specific estrogenic prodrug that acts exclusively within the central nervous system.
She is extremely passionate about developing a better understanding of menopause, both from a physiological perspective but also from documenting people’s experiences of this transition from across the globe. Her ultimate goal is to improve the current treatment options available for menopausal symptoms and how we approach this hormonal transition. Celine is actively seeking postdoctoral opportunities.
